Carleton College, founded in 1865, is a private, liberal arts college. Its focus on students and learning is manifest in the extraordinary opportunities for student-faculty research all across the curriculum, summer fellowships provided by the college for student research, the many hours faculty spends with students outside of class and a highly participative governance system. There''s not a typical student at Carleton, though most share a few things in common: a desire to learn and grow, humor and developing the ability to understand and listen, so that diversity is valued in every way instead of just tolerated. Its 950-acre campus, including a 450-acre arboretum, is located 35 miles south of Minneapolis-St. Paul. Campus architecture includes buildings constructed during the first two decades of the 20th century.
