Syracuse University, founded in 1870, is a private, comprehensive university. It strives to be the nation''s leading student-centered research university and promotes learning through teaching, research, scholarship, creative accomplishment and service. A spirit of cooperation is present across all disciplines. Faculty members are expected to continue learning through research in their own fields and to share this discovery with undergrads actively involved in that research and in the classroom. Programs are offered through the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Computer Science, Human Development, Nursing, and the Visual and Performing Arts; and the Schools of Architecture, Education, Information Studies and Management. Classes are smaller, advising is stronger and emphasis on internships and foreign study is greater than in most comparable institutions. This model is a hallmark of a Syracuse University education. The 200-acre campus, including 15 buildings registered with the National Register of Historic Places, is located in Syracuse.
